Dear Parents and Friends of DAS,
To celebrate the 35th year since the foundation of our school and in preparation for the coming years, DAS presents its third annual report and intends to publish a new report each year in the future. The purpose of this report is to provide an overview of the status of Dhahran Ahliyya Schools as of the end of the 2011\2012 academic year. It also offers a quick view of some of the School’s recent activities and accomplishments.
Our schools are proud of the efforts and resources they have focused on ensuring continuous improvement in all areas despite the multiple challenges facing us. One of these accomplishments is that we are now authorized not only by the Saudi Ministry of Education but are also now classified as an international school, accredited by the North Central Association Commission of Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI). This international accreditation is under the auspices of AdvancEd , one of the largest international education accrediting agencies in the world. It has accredited more than twenty-seven thousand (27,000) government and private schools and six thousand (6,000) educational districts in fifty-six (65) countries, thereby serving around fifteen million students (15,000,000) around the world.
Our schools are proud of the efforts and resources they have focused on ensuring continuous improvement in all areas despite the multiple challenges facing us. One of the requirements which is specified for receiving the accreditation is that the school has a clear plan for continuous improvement and works in a manner that is focused and organized to implement this plan. DAS has persisted in its drive for improvement continuously since its founding thirty-five years ago. You will see the results of a few of its projects in this report.
Among the projects we are currently working on is the establishment of a Board of Trustees which will advise the President. Half of the membership of the Board will be from Aramco and the other half from outside Aramco. Some members will be graduates, parents or grandparents and others will be persons from the community who see the School’s importance for the benefit of our area. All will commit themselves to the School’s mission and vision and to its continuous development.
To summarize its purpose, the Board will work at a strategic level to ensure the stability and resources needed to continue to fulfill the school’s mission, vision, values, and the Statutes of Foundation. Day to day management of the schools, aligned with board policy, will continue to be delegated to the Directors and Principals of the schools. Board members will not have any power in the school as individuals but only as members of the Board and acting on decisions made by it. More information about the Board will be shared in the coming months as the details become clear.
Our purpose at DAS is to develop future citizens who will contribute to the development of our beloved country and to the world in which it exists. This is clarified in our Mission Statement and the Targeted Characteristics for our students. We look forward to the partnership of the parents of our students. God willing, together we will achieve this Mission for our students and our world.
